Easy Homemade Chocolate Sauce For Ice Cream

I've given this away as a gift and made it 3 times for my own family.  It is one of those recipes that I  know I will be in the family for a very long time--it is SOOO good.  It is quick, it uses ingredients we usually have on hand, and it tastes WAY better than store bought chocolate sauce.  When I served it to my husband, he just kept grunting and saying "MMM"& "YUM" as he scraped his bowl clean.  I'm surprised he didn't get his face in it and lick it clean!  Yes, it is that good.
Here is the recipe, it is from recipebzaar.com.  It was recommended by another blog, but I can't remember which one, which I'm feeling pretty bad about because they deserve a big thanks from me!

Lee Lee's Famous Chocolate Sauce For Ice Cream
2 min/1 minute prep time

Serves 4-6

1/2 cup sugar (I use whole cane sugar -rapadura)
2 Tablespoon Cocoa
1/8 tsp Salt
1 1/2-2 Tablespoon Butter
1/4 cup water (more or less, as needed to make a stirable consistency)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract (can't beat 100% pure vanilla extract!)

1. Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt in a small saucepan.
2. Add enough water to make stirable consistency.
3. Add butter to cocoa mixture.
4. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly.
5. Allow to boil for 1 minute, stirring.
6. Remove from heat.
7. Add vanilla.
8. Serve warm over ice cream.

  1. I notice #8 says: Serve warm over ice cream. I think you should add #9: Dive in with a spoon!!! Looks delicious. I'm going to have to try this.

  2. mmm...sounds really good..I am actually going to go try it right now..I just made a butter pecan cake...that would be extra delicious if I drizzle that chocolate syrup on top!!!
    thank you!!! I let you know how it turns out!!

  3. Sounds very yum, have to give that a try!

  4. Oo. Yum! Our family of chocoholics who prefer to eat healthy, but cannot resist chocolate will have to try this. It will be cheaper than buying the organic stuff I sometimes buy and looks so easy. Thank you!

    And a random question - how did you set up your printer friendly button at the bottom of your blog posts? I love that! To print this out I did not need to cut and paste... Please let me know how you did it...

  5. What a great idea! Easy and everyone loves chocolate, I will have to keep this one in mind!

  7. @Lisa-yes, I need a #9!

    @ Nikki-butter pecan cake, oh yum. How did it turn out?

    @Raggygirlvintage- you must!

    @Martianne-You are welcome. For the print friendly button, go to http://www.printfriendly.com/ and click on "get your button" it will tell you what to do. Nifty, huh?

    @Jessa Thanks.

    @Kate- you are welcom. enjoy.

  8. Umm, you're speaking my love language!

    I'm wondering...if you use it as a gift, do you make it...seal it and refridgerate it?

    This may be a DUH question....just wondering!?

  9. Yummmmm-ooooooo! Looks marvelous. I have one question though, does it need to be refrigerated? Just wondered - it would be an awesome gift!

  10. Yum - I can't wait to try this! Love the way you have packaged it too!

  11. That looks so good then again you had me at
    the word chocolate!

  12. Can you say YUM?? Wow I am totally craving chocolate now. I think you could put that sauce on cardboard and I'd eat it.
    Thanks for sharing!

  15. Looks delicious! I've gotta try it!
    Thanks for sharing, this week, @ Anything Related!

  16. Looks delish! I'm allergic to dairy so I might try this with oil instead..... thanks for the printer tip in the comments!

  17. Yes, this needs refrigerated. If you want dairy free, coconut oil would be great in this, I think! I will try that version and let you all know!

  18. Just tried this and it was delicious! Thanks!

  19. Hey! I didn't have any chocolate syrup but had some cocoa.
    So on a whim......... That! is very good!

  20. Thanks so much for this recipe! I see you posted it quite a while ago, but I am just finding it. I made it w/ coconut oil. Tastes great! I have only just made it, so don't know how it will handle the refrigerator. (Does the coconut oil solidify too much?) But, I don't think any of this will make it to the refrigerator, so I won't know that this time! :)

  21. made it and it was delicious! thanks

  22. Made this today. It is delicious! My other chocolate sauce recipe hardens right away (corn syrup I am guessing). My first batch was runny and I didn't use the full 1/4 of water, my second batch was much better after only using a couple of TBSP of water.
    I have it in the frig and I am hoping I can just pop it in the microwave to heat it up when guests arrive. YUMMY!
